"Teaching in itself is a learning experience and it brings me great joy when I see an artist unfold their creativity on the canvas." – Marc Chatov
We are thrilled to include Marc Chatov as an instructor at Townsend Atelier this year. Chatov's workshop environments are casual, encouraging and informative. In this three-day workshop, Marc will begin each morning with a demonstration presenting his approach to painting the portrait and figure from life using a direct painting style. Marc will discuss his use of color, value relationships and understanding the importance of aesthetics and composition design and why certain solutions work to make a painting stronger and why others don't. Additionally, Marc will cover paint application, brush techniques, materials and the importance of drawing. Marc will visit the students in rounds providing individual instruction based on their specific needs. Students will be working from a live clothed model. At the end of the workshop, students are welcome to bring other work for critique. (Please limit to three works). There will be a one-hour lunch break each day. Lunch is on your own in our studio or at plenty of dining options nearby.
